Cat duo thrive in their forever home

Do you remember Bibi and Lord Sugar? When they arrived at the RSPCA, they were both so scared. But thanks to your support, we could give them the expert care they desperately needed.

Their favourite things: Chasing cedar balls (Bibi) and a warm lap (Lord Sugar)

Scared cats find solace in each other

In our spring 2023 Sponsorship pack, we featured Bibi (later renamed Lady Sugar to make the cats an official pair) and Lord Sugar.

Bibi arrived at RSPCA Birmingham Animal Centre with a ruptured eye. She also had ear mites, and her teeth needed a scale and polish. She was so timid that we couldn’t even stroke her.

Lord Sugar, who’d come to us separately a month earlier, was also shy and scared. It was clear he’d had no human contact, and hissed if we came near.

Thanks to your Sponsorship, we could give them the time they needed with our experienced staff and volunteers to feel safe and secure again. Their journey was not easy, but thanks to the individualised rehabilitation that they received, they transformed into confident and loving cats.

And here’s the best part: Bibi and Lord Sugar formed an unbreakable bond. Charlotte and Wendy adopted them together, and even gave them some new names – Willow and Hemlock.

When Lord Sugar was on the cattery floor, Bibi started chirping and rolling in her pen, watching him.

Settling with their forever family

Charlotte says, “Willow (Lady Sugar) settled in so quickly and always asks for fuss. We can’t believe how calm she is. She always wants to be in the same room as us, too.

“Willow’s favourite thing is to chase cedar balls around the house to train up for the big autumn spider hunt.

“Hemlock (Lord Sugar) took a lot longer [to settle], but he’s surprised us by becoming the fussiest lap cat I’ve ever had. He likes to make sure he’s touching both of us at all times. His favourite thing is a warm lap, and he will get on one whether it’s free or not!

“Willow walks around meowing for Hemlock if she can’t find him. And if we’ve accidentally closed one of them in a room, the other will let us know by meowing urgently. Though they’re rarely in separate rooms.

“They’re both so sweet with us and each other. I’m so glad we saw them online!”

Willow and Hemlock went from scared cats to happy and beloved companions. It’s a true testament to the power of your compassion and support. Thank you.

Charlotte wanted to pass this message to you: “RSPCA Sponsors helped our cats get treatment. They’re now happy, healthy, and full of love. Thank you.”

The pair are now happy and loved, thanks to you
